How to process a Model

X4D supports models from Autodesk Forge, Navisworks and UPV.  The model uploader in X4D is meant for Navisworks files.  UPV and Autodesk Forge models are stored on their user accounts connected to X4D. The following video shows how to upload and translate the model in X4D.

Step 1: Upload the Model

To upload a model in X4D, The Models screen under the Project tab allows you to upload supported files to X4D maintaining consistency across all users of the platform.

1.Click the ‘Upload Model’ button.  It will show a browse and upload button.

2.Click the ‘Browse’ button and select the file you want to upload.

3.Click the ‘Upload’ button to confirm.

When the model is uploaded. It will be immediately selected, a revision is created for it and you will be able to add Artifacts to the model.

Step 2: Pull Properties

For Navisworks documents, the user has the capability to process the document in the Administration section of X4D under Process 3D Model.

1.Click the ‘Refresh Properties’ button.  A window will appear processing the document for pulling properties and will fill the Property grid on completion.

2.Check the Unique/Tag box for all properties that you would consider having tag values.

Step 3: Translate the Model (X4D Pull/Push)

Translating the model in X4D pulls all model attributes, uses our Tag Pattern feature to find tags in the model and determine if there are tags not in X4D that should be tags.  Finally it will push the X4D attributes back to the model for easy navigation when pairing X4D with a 3D Model Viewer.

1.Click the ‘Run Pull/Push’ button to start the process of translating the model for X4D use.

2.A window will pop-up for the pull operation and once completed, A tag screen will show all the tags in the model, existing and possibly missed tags.

3.After confirmation on tags, X4D Push will run pushing all X4D attributes to the model and saving the model with a revision “X4D”.

*Log files are created for each operation.  Their file location will be identified as below.
